3D Eyes Test

Tutorial 1

During the first tutorial of the module we used a simple technique to create some quite effective 3D eyes which could be used in our final model. The technique involves creating a sphere with the tip cut off for the pupil and 2 half spheres to form the eyelid. This gives a cartoon like look which is ideal for the target age group of the final model.

I added another sphere for the head and a cone which I curved slightly to get a quick look of how the eyes look on a head model. The narrow eyes are quite good and giving a suspicious feeling about him as a character.

Character Moodboard

Cartoon Villains

With the cartoon villains a common theme seems to be oddly discoloured skin, exaggerated features, shadows or bags under the eyes and a general mean look or grin.

Some villains have a calm exterior in an effort to hide their true intentions but often go mianical when enraged or foiled in some way.

An evil laugh is almost a given here too.

Live Action Villains

Live action villains are harder to identify than cartoon villains but often have similar traits. An untrustworthy or mean look, discoloured skin, greasy or disheveled hair, scars etc.

Generally the villains clothes are also quite dark in colour, greys, blacks and sometimes reds are most common.

3D Character Animation

This modules assignment is the creation of a new villian character designed for a childrens cartoon. The character must be easily recognised as a villain, suitable for children aged 7-11 and have a variety of facial expressions as well as full body animations.

Before deciding on what my character should look like I plan to do some background research to get a good idea of what common tropes and designs are present in similar characters today.

I will also look into human body language and try to film others doing a number of movements for reference. (With permission of course).

I am looking forward to see what ideas I come up with.
